The cost of a pool repair depends on what has gone wrong, how far it has spread and whether the pool has to be emptied to fix it. A few loose tiles is a small job; a structural crack or a leak that has been running for months can be a much larger one, which is why it pays to deal with problems early.
What has gone wrong
| Problem | What the repair involves | What changes the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Cracks | Chased out, filled and sealed, then the surface made good | How many, how long, and whether they are structural |
| Leaks | Found by a leak detection specialist, then repaired at the source | Where the leak is and how easy it is to reach |
| Hollow render | Drummy patches cut out and re-rendered | The area affected |
| Loose or missing tiles | Tiles lifted, the bed repaired and tiles reset | How many, and whether matching tiles can be found |
Whether the pool has to be emptied
Most crack repairs and work below the waterline need a dry surface, so the pool is drained. Some waterline tile and coping repairs can be done with the water lowered instead. Draining, cleaning and refilling the pool are part of the job and part of the cost.

How far it has spread
A crack left open lets water into the shell and behind the render, and a slow leak can wash out the ground under the pool. The longer a problem runs, the more there is to repair. A repair made early is usually the smallest repair.
Repair, or more?
If the pool is drained for a repair and the interior is also worn, resurfacing at the same time can save a second emptying later. Our guides to pool resurfacing costs and pool renovation costs explain those jobs.
