An ageing spa in the Northern Beaches, at home or in an apartment building, can usually be brought back with a new interior, new tiles and repairs to the shell. Send a few photos and we will talk you through what it needs.

A spa runs hotter and works its interior harder than a pool, so surfaces, grout and seals wear out sooner. The renovation options are the same as for a pool, on a smaller scale: repairs, a new interior, new tiles, and attention to the jets and fittings set into the shell.

Pools in the Northern Beaches: what to plan for

Northern Beaches pools range from beachside courtyards to plateau and escarpment blocks with views. Sandstone sits close to the surface in many suburbs, plenty of blocks slope, and salt air near the beaches is hard on coping, grout and equipment.

  • Rock and slope

    Sandstone under the yard is broken out by machine, and a sloping block may need retaining walls or a raised edge, both priced after a site visit.

  • Salt air

    Near the beaches, coping, grout and metal fittings are chosen for salt exposure, and equipment is best kept out of the wind.

  • Bush and approvals

    Blocks backing onto bushland can be bush fire prone land, which changes the approval path; we check it before quoting.

What people ask us about spa renovations before they book.

How long does a spa renovation take?

Usually one to three weeks: about one to two for a new interior, and longer when new jets, lighting or structural repairs are part of it. The spa is drained for the work.

Can the jets and heating be upgraded?

Yes. Worn jets can be replaced or more added, and lighting and heating (electric, gas or a heat pump) are best added during the renovation, while the spa is empty.

Can you renovate a spa in an apartment building?

Yes. We work with the strata committee or building manager on access, timing and the paperwork, and bring the spa up to the standard it needs before residents use it again.

How often does a spa need renovating?

An interior typically lasts 10 to 15 years and pumps and heaters around 8 to 12, so most concrete spas are renovated several times over their life. Hot water and sanitiser wear a spa faster than a pool.
